Abstract
Krukenberg tumor accounts for 30~40% of metastatic cancers to the ovaries. About 80% of this tumor had a primary cancer of the stomach, and the remainder had a primary cancer in the colon, breast, or biliary tract.
This ovarian neoplasm is relatively rare, about 2% of ovarian cancers at some institutions, and usually bilateral. Especially, this tumor of the ovary associated with pregnancy is very rare and early detection is very difficult.
The definite diagnosis of the Krukenberg tumor would be pathologic diagnosis with surgical specimen. This tumor arises in the ovarian stroma and has characteristic mucin-filled, signet ring cells metastatic from the gastrointestinal tract,
predominantly.
The authors recently experienced one case of the Krukenberg tumor of the ovary from primary cancer of the stomach associated with preeclampsia at 34 weeks' gestation, and reported this case with a brief review of the literatures.
